DigiLinX-users can access all of the music files and sources managed by the FireBall media server and enjoy them through speakers in any room included in their NetStreams DigiLinX system. The addition of Escient’s products to the growing list of DigiLinX-compatible technology highlights NetStreams’ focus on providing the path for the future of IP-based digital home entertainment.

Six models of the Escient FireBall digital music managers are seamlessly compatible with the DigiLinX system: the FireBall E-40, E-120, E2-40, E2-160, E2-300, and the DVDM-300. Escient’s new firmware for the FireBall digital music manager, available in March 2005, allows the product to be a “native” DigiLinX source, and allow up to 5 simultaneous audio streams over the DigiLinX system. DigiLinX also supports distribution and control of the meta-data bundled with digital audio—the extra information used to catalog music files such as artist, album, genre, and even cover art. DigiLinX’s TouchLinX in-wall LCD color touch screens can display this information, and allow users to select tracks based on its different categories.

DigiLinX: The First IP-based Networked Audio/Video Distribution System
DigiLinX uses NetStreams’ patent pending StreamNet technology to distribute audio over CAT5e using TCP/IP on an Ethernet network. DigiLinX converts audio from legacy sources (Tuner, CD player, other) in real-time, to uncompressed audio streams, allowing up to 24-bit, studio-quality audio to be distributed throughout a home or commercial facility. StreamNet automatically solves the synchronization of an audio source to multiple rooms over a TCP/IP network, a function that no other system has been able to provide.
